RECREATION:
With 4,719 acres of parks, well established and new neighborhoods and lively, competitive athletic programs, Grand Prairie makes businesses and residents feel right at home.
Grand Prairie has forty-eight parks and a senior center, community center, three recreation centers, four public swimming pools (including one indoor pool) 26 baseball diamonds, tennis courts, one aggressive skate park, and soccer fields (18 lighted). With a ¼ cent sales tax devoted to park improvements, a $125 million, 20 year Parks Master Plan will improve every park in Grand Prairie and add valuable new park land on an ongoing basis. In addition to private golf courses and a country
course, the city's two public golf courses offer great golf at a great price. The City's Tangle Ridge Golf Course is ranked 12th best in the state by Golf Digest and 8th best in the Metroplex by the Dallas Morning News.
Grand Prairie Public Library has more then 130,000 volumes, a bookmobile and a new branch library with another 30,000
volumes.
In south Grand Prairie, Joe Pool Lake is set among rolling hills. Fishing, boating, swimming, and
water skiing are popular here. The lake's Lynn Creek Park features boat ramps, picnic sites, beaches, volleyball, restrooms, and loads of natural beauty. Loyd Park offers wooded camp sites, trails, showers, and restrooms. Lynn Creek Marina features boat slips, rentals, boat ramps and fishing supplies. Adjacent to the
marina is the Oasis, a floating restaurant, which overlooks the waters of the lake and serves up
delicious fare and
beverages. TOURISM:
At Joe Pool Lake, more than one million visitors a year play, ski, fish, boat, picnic and camp. Traders Village, a massive
"flea market", attracts 3 million visitors a year to bargain hunt and power shop. The Palace of Wax and Ripley's Believe It Or Not! annually draws 500,000 people to see realistic wax replicas of rich, famous, and historically significant and countless oddities collected by cartoonist Robert
Ripley.
Another 1.2 million race to Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie, a Class I thoroughbred race track. NextStage
at Grand Prairie, an entertainment venue,
is thrilling audiences with concerts, Broadway shows and more!
Next door, the world's largest roller coaster rides are thrilling at Six Flags Over Texas.
The Texas Rangers are always hitting home runs. Across the way, the Dallas and Fort Worth Zoo's capture your attention. Down the street, the Fort Worth Stockyards step back in time to cattle drives and cowboys. Just north, the Dallas Cowboys wow fans.
In the
East you will be able to enjoy the Dallas Maand vericks Dallas Stars in the new American Airlines Arena. All around the Metroplex,
you will find world class museums, internationally regarded orchestras,
theaters, shopping and dining that combine to offer a fully rewarding and
exciting life.
