City Information

Brightly colored sails glide across the glassy surface of Joe Pool Lake. An early morning foursome  swings against a backdrop of emerald fairways at Prairie Lakes Golf Course. Neighbors greet neighbors as they walk and bike. Generations gather at grandma's for a Sunday picnic. Fathers, mothers, kids and teachers cheer at Friday night high school football games. All this goes on in the heart of one of the nation's busiest and most prosperous urban centers, all in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Conveniently located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Grand Prairie offers relaxation and  fun for families. Friendly neighbors, and a smart place to live and do business. More than 130,000 people live in Grand Prairie. We call more than 4 million people "neighbor" in the Metroplex. Generally speaking, our residents are thirty something, dual income, college educated, homeowners. In Grand Prairie, families who have lived here for generations welcome newcomers who choose to move to Grand Prairie for the same reasons the natives don't leave-location and hometown atmosphere.

From north to south, Grand Prairie is making people sit up and take notice. The City's  Class I horse racetrack Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie is in its seventh successful season. While their simulcast pavilion hosts thousands of customers a day as they bet on races throughout the country, live racing attracts more than one million a year. Grand Prairie also is in position to take advantage of its unique opportunities relative to Joe Pool Lake. The city opened its popular $7.2 million Tangle Ridge Golf Club just south of the lake. Rated twelfth best golf course in Texas by Golf Digest, the course is reminiscent of the Austin hill country with dramatic elevation changes, tree-lined fairways and bentgrass greens. Across the lake, the Estes Peninsula is poised for major upscale residential, recreational and resort development.

In terms of other entertainment, Grand Prairie is a gold mine. With unique museums such as the Palace of Wax, Ripley's Believe It or Not! and Trader's Village (a 106-acre flea market). New is 2002 is the concert and entertainment venue - NextStage at Grand Prairie, offering a multitude of live concerts and plays.  You have to see what a find this city really is.
