MEET & GREET THE TROOPS
See attached flyer for information to participate in greeting the troops flying in to DFW Airport for their two weeks of R&R! October 22 - October 28 the Grand Prairie Chamber and surrounding area businesses will be responsible for having individuals, groups, businesses and organizations out at DFW airport to welcome home the service men and women who arrive daily. Thanks "Giving" Project After spending a week at the DFW Airport participating once again for the Meet & Greet the Troops project, the Grand Prairie Chamber volunteers have found a new project for our business community. While we have spent part of the last two years welcoming soldiers home for their two weeks of R&R, there is another flight leaving each day with soldiers returning to their active duty for another six months to a year or more. The USO at the Dallas Fort Worth airport has started a program found in only a few areas - where they tape soldiers reading books to their children. The new book, along with a CD of the reading is mailed home to the soldier's children. This is an absolutely wonderful gift to both the soldiers, as well as their families. For the November Luncheon of the Grand Prairie Chamber, we are encouraging businesses, organizations, citizens and our members to purchase new, hard bound books to be donated to the USO. The soldiers have children of all ages - so you can get books for the very young, up to the teenage years. If you don't want to buy a book, you can raise money that can be spent purchasing the CD's, paying the postage or paying the cost of the mailing materials. We think this is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you - not only to the soldiers, but to their families for their service in providing our protection. The chamber luncheon will be Wednesday, November 14, 2007 - 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The cost for the luncheon is $15. Of course, if you just want to drop off your donations - that would be welcomed. For information - contact the chamber office 972-264-1558.
